- Code.org Lessons Introduction
- Code.org Lesson Considerations and Setup
- Code.org Curriculum Pacing Guide
This page contains the curriculum for coding, using lessons and resources from Code.org. These lessons are available from Code.org, at https://code.org/educate/curriculum/elementary-school Links to an external site.. Below is a screencast that orients you to the website and how to find and use the materials on the website.
Here is our Google Doc where you can view and/or add helpful tips and tricks from other STEM Brain Booster teachers. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W2z9QQa6PE8E-jz7_MA_368OmTbVDU2Ci0UbmDkEKyQ/edit?usp=sharing Links to an external site.
Implementation Considerations
The lessons have more material than you may have time to cover in your allotted Brain Booster time of 45 minutes/week. The next tab has a pacing guide for lessons, here are some other considerations:
- Depending on pacing from the other units, you may be on schedule, behind schedule, or ahead of schedule. So use your best judgment to adjust this schedule as needed. Do not feel like you need to finish all the lessons or teach a complete lesson, complete what makes sense for the timeframe and schedule you have at your school.
- Many lessons are longer than 40 minutes, so you may want to split over 2 weeks or just teach a certain section of the lesson to fit the allotted time.
- Lessons in "Weeks 4-7" are designated for flex time, meaning they could be taught during designated flex weeks or other flexible teaching times (such as when KaiBots are available or as a STEM activity).
Setting Up Accounts
Once again, you can find these lessons on Code.org, at https://code.org/educate/curriculum/elementary-school Links to an external site.. In order for you to track your student's progress, add class lists, and have your students save their progress, both you and your students must create accounts. This is fairly simple to do, below the chart is a screencast Links to an external site. for setting that up. You can also watch this video Links to an external site. on setting up class lists from Code.org. For lessons in languages other than English, reach out to Jonathan Stewart jonathan.stewart@canyonsdistrict.org and we can connect on setting up those resources.
