7-3 Scatter Plots and Lines of Best Fit

CCSS Standards- 8.SP.1, 8.SP.2, & 8.SP.3

Critical Background Knowledge-  Students should know how to graph lines and write the equation of lines.

Content Objective: I can graph construct and interpret scatter plots.    I can describe the relationships shown in a scatter plot (identifying patterns such as clustering, outliers, positive or negative association, linear association, and non-linear association).  I can sketch a line of best fit on a scatter plot, and justify the location of the line.  I can write the equation of a line of best fit.  I can use the equation to make predictions.  I can explain what the slope and the y-intercept mean in terms of the situation.

Language Objective: I know the definition of scatter plots, outliers, clustering, positive and negative association, line of best fit, and to justify.

Essential Question:  How are important issues identify and explore through statistics?
