One of the first steps is to publish your course. Don't worry if your course isn't perfectly created or set up. Canvas courses are a work in progress throughout the year.
1. Using the navigation sidebar, select "Home."
2. On the right of your screen, select "Publish." The button will be green when your course is published for students.
Instructions: Click the images below to learn more about setting up your Canvas course.
Step 1: Edit your course navigation to match CSD standards. |
Step 2: Create a homepage for your course. |
Step 3: Add content to your homepage to meet CSD standards. |
Pages are where you can put content and educational resources that are part of your course but don’t necessarily belong in an assignment, or that you want to refer to in multiple assignments. This is a place where you can include text, video, and links to your files. You can even make links to other pages.
Pages can also be used as a collaboration tool where you can create class wikis and set specific user access for each page. Canvas keeps the entire history of the page so you can see how it changes over time.
Create your homepage
1. Click on the "Pages" tab in the left sidebar navigation menu (NOTE: this button is grayed out but can still be clicked).
2. Click on the "View All Pages" button in the top right corner.
3. Click the "+ Pages" button to create a new page.
4. Give your page a title ("Home" works well).
5. At the bottom of the page and click the "Save & publish" button. (NOTE: We will add content to later in this module).
6. Return to "Pages."
7. Click on the gear icon next to the cloud icon for your home page. Select "Use as Front Page" from the list.
