ADVANCED Breakout #4 - RESOURCES
Participants will be able to:
- create outcomes.
- become familiar with the Mastery Gradebook.
- align rubrics with outcomes.
- download DWSBAs into their courses.
Outcomes in Canvas are the equivalent of state standards, instructional objectives, or "I Can" statements. Outcomes allow teachers to assess and track student progress in relation to standards instead of points, which we know as standards based grading.

When Canvas quiz questions and rubrics are aligned to Outcomes, grading student work results in the automatic collection and compilation of data on student mastery for those Outcomes, which can be viewed in the Learning Mastery Gradebook on Canvas.

Your Turn!
Consider an assessment you just gave or are about to give. Grab your curriculum map or list of course I CAN statements, and make an Outcome for each standard assessed by that assessment.
If your standards are broken down too far, assessment can become tedious. If needed, "chunk" your standards. Likewise, if your standards are too broad, using them to assess can become too vague and will not be useful for student improvement. If this is the case, try unpacking them before creating Outcomes.
The Learning Mastery Gradebook helps teachers track student mastery of Outcomes in a color-coded format for easy reference.

You can align any outcome in your course to a rubric. Rubrics are used to help students understand expectations for an assignment and how their submissions will be graded. Outcomes can be aligned with a rubric for additional assessment and measurable performance.
To align an outcome, the outcome must already exist for your course.
