Adding Video to Content Pages.

Canvas provides two ways to add video to a content page.

Option 1: Public Collections

Browse or search through multiple content repositories including Vimeo, YouTube, SchoolTube, Khan Academy and Quizlet.

In order to add content from the Public Collections LTI to your course:

  1. Click on theScreen Shot 2017-01-09 at 9.57.16 PM.pngbutton in the rich text editor (found when editing assignments, content pages, discussions, quizzes, and announcements.)
  2. Next click the Screen Shot 2017-01-09 at 9.57.22 PM.pngbutton.  This will allow you to browse the resources available at any of the Public Collection websites.
  3. Chose the resource that you want to use.
  4. Enter search terms, like "math raps."
  5. Choose the resource desired by clicking on it and this LTI will put a link onto your course directing students to the desired Public Collections materials you have selected.

Step 1:  Choose the desired resource.

Step 3:  Click the resource you might want to use on your page.  This step allows you to preview the resource.

Step 4:  Embed the resource onto your course by clicking the blue embed box in the upper right corner of the screen. This is where you can choose the size of the video in the content page. (you can still adjust the size out of this screen)

Once the video is embedded onto your page it will appear like the example below.

Option 2: You can also add video by selecting the Record/Upload Media icon: Screen Shot 2013-08-22 at 4.34.00 PM.png. After clicking the icon, the following window will open:

If your computer has a built-in or connected camera, you can record live video to share with your students. This same feature works for announcements, discussions, assignments, comments on student assignments, and other places in your Canvas course.

You can also upload a video to a content page. We have learned that some file types and large videos don't upload well. We recommend that you upload your video to YouTube and add it to your course using the YouTube video option discussed above.
