Deep Sea Vent Ecosystem Final Model Checklist, Rubric, and SUBMISSION!
You have hopefully learned a whole lot about hydrothermal vents these past few weeks! I would like you to show me what you have learned through some sort of visual model! This visual model can be a labeled drawing, a diagram with a collection of different images, an image you have copied and heavily annotated, a PowerPoint, shoebox diorama, a video… an interpretive dance… anything! It doesn’t need to be perfect, but it does need to include ALL of the following:
- General requirements
-
-
- The model was clearly created by the student, and wasn’t just stolen from the internet without modification! If you do just copy and paste your whole model, you will receive a zero and be asked to resubmit!
- Include visual elements that show some big ideas at a glance!
- Be organized, neat, and legible.
-
- Abiotic and geological factors
- Show a hydrothermal vent!
- Show or describe the flow of heat and matter coming from the earth to the water.
- Show or describe the lack of sunlight, the high pressure, and the temperatures.
- Chemosynthesis/marine snow
- Show or describe marine snow!
- Show or describe the reactants and products of chemosynthesis!
- Show or describe the flow of energy and matter being taken into the organisms from the water.
- Tube worms and producers
- Show a tube worm!
- Show some non-symbiotic bacteria!
- Show or describe the relationship between the symbiotic bacteria and their host
-
Crustaceans and consumers
-
- Show a crustacean!
- Show another, different consumer!
- Show or describe the flow of energy and matter between different organisms in this ecosystem!
-
Depending on what your model is, the way you submit it will be different! Most of you will be taking pictures of your models with your phone, email them to yourself, then submitting those pictures here on canvas. I have opened up multiple submission options for this assignment!
If you can’t figure out how to submit your model on canvas, SEND ME AN EMAIL!!!!
I expect you to spend about 60 - 90 minutes working on your model, (unless you are going for the extra credit!). If you are stuck, confused, don’t have time to complete this, or are otherwise frustrated, send me an email!
