Built-In Apps
Every Mac computer ships with built-in apps. Some of these apps are listed on this page. Click on the images in each section below to access walk-throughs and videos describing the apps. There are many apps listed, so choose at least two that you do not know well and research how they might help you in your classroom.
Safari
Safari is Apple's web browser. Safari makes browsing the web even more enjoyable with easy-to-use features, such as Pinned Sites, AirPlay, improved security, and more.
Pages
Pages is Apple's word processing and document creation application. You can use Pages to create any kind of document you want, from a simple word-processing document that’s mainly text, to a page layout document with graphics, interesting font treatments, and more. Links to an external site.
Keynote
Keynote is Apple's presentation application. Keynote makes it easy to create and show beautiful presentations. Start with one of the themes, then modify it however you like. Each theme comes with predesigned styles—coordinated sets of colors, borders, effects, and so on—for text, shapes, photos, video, and other objects.
Numbers
Number is Apple's spreadsheet and data application. Numbers makes it easy to make beautiful and compelling spreadsheets. Start with one of the templates, then modify it however you like. Notes
Notes is Apple's cloud-based note taking application. Use gallery view to see all your notes as thumbnails, allowing your images to lead you to the exact one you want. If you still can’t find the right note, use powerful search features like searching for images or text inside your scanned documents and more.
Reminders
Reminders is Apple's to-do list application. Manage all your to-do lists in Reminders, even if they’re in different accounts like iCloud, Exchange, Yahoo or AOL.
iTunes
iTunes is Apple's multimedia application. Store, organize, purchase, and play music, movies, and more.
Photos
Photos is Apple's photo management application. Photos is built for the way you take, organize, and enjoy your photos.
Books
Books is Apple's e-book application. Buy books and download them to read offline. Adjust the brightness and font size as you read. Keep your books organized—all with Apple Books.
iMovie
iMovie is Apple's movie editing application. With iMovie, you can view, edit, and share movies on your Mac.
GarageBand
GarageBand is Apple's music creation and editing application. GarageBand puts a complete music studio on your computer, so you can make your own music to share with the world. You can create songs, ringtones, and other types of projects in GarageBand.
