Care and Cleaning
Taking care of equipment is important to every educator. Knowing how to keep your computer and other issued equipment clean and in working condition is one way to help your classroom run smoothly.
Performance Care
How can you keep your computer running smoothly and operating and peak performance?
- Keep your desktop clutter free and your files organized.
- Do not download from sites you do not trust. Sometimes downloaded programs that are not recommended by the District can compromise your computer's performance.
- Back up your data. Make sure your most important documents or other files are saved in another location such as an external hard drive. Click here to learn more about Apple Time Machine. Links to an external site.

- Keep your screen clean: Spray a silk or microfiber cloth with screen cleaner and clean your screen.
- Use a disinfectant wipe to clean the other parts of your computer. Clean while your computer is turned off.
- Pay attention to the amount of dust your computer accumulates. Dust it often.
- Take care of your cords. Keep them away from pets, vacuums, doors, etc. Keep them organized with cable organizers or velcro strips.
Safety and Security
Having a district-owned laptop comes with responsibility. Be conscious of the conditions your computer is exposed to.
- Don't leave your laptop in your car. It poses a risk of theft and damage due to extreme temperatures.
- Don't leave your computer unattended. You don't want your important equipment or information to be vulnerable to those who are not authorized to use it. Password protect your computer, and close it (put it in sleep mode) when you walk away from it.
- Handle, carry, and travel with your laptop carefully. Make sure it is closed and that you are securely gripping it in your arms or with two hands. When traveling, use a secure laptop bag.
- If you feel the password for your computer has been compromised, change it.
