Social Annotations
Hypothes.is is a Chrome extension that allows you and your students to annotate a web page, PDF, or EPUB document. This can be used individually to take notes, or collaboratively and hold text-based discussions. Teachers and students are able to annotate, highlight, and tag web pages and PDF documents.

NowComment is an annotation tool that allows for students to have threaded discussions on documents in context. NowComment makes it easy to have rich, engaging discussions of online documents no matter how large (or small) your class or collaboration group.

Perusall Links to an external site. is an e-reader platform that allows students and faculty to annotate the assigned readings and engage the reading material in a style akin to social media posting. Students can write full comments, add photographs, “like” comments, use hashtags, link URLs to their comments and even use emoticons.
