Mini Research Project

Book.pngThis week we will be introduced to research skills, and create a mini research project. This is a project, which is a type of assessment! Here are some basic question and answers about what we will be doing:

  • Question: What is research?
    • Answer: Research is starting with a question (or questions) and then using reliable sources to answer the question(s)
  • Question: What does "reliable" mean?
    • Answer: Reliable means something that can be trusted. The information is accurate and truthful. 
  • Question: How do I research?
    • Answer: There are many tools to help you research! Some examples include: encyclopedias, reference books, and reliable website.
    • Inside the word "research", you see the word "search." Research involves searching for the right answer to your question(s) in a reliable source.
    • For this project, we will be using a database- a collection of reliable resources. The database we will be using is called World Book Online.
  • Question: What are we researching?
    • Answer: We are researching an ancient civilization. You may choose from:
      • Aboriginal Peoples of Australia
      • Africans of the Ghana, Mali, and Songhai Empires
      • Chinese of the Shang, Zhou, and Qin Dynasties
      • Indians of Eastern North America
      • Indians of the Southwest
      • Indians of the Northwest Coast and Plateau
      • Indians of the Plains and Great Basins
      • Aztec
      • The Inca
      • The Maori
      • The Maya
  • Question: What will we do with our research?
    • Answer: Historians and other researchers usually present their research in someway. We will be making a short Google Slides presentation on our research.
