Lesson 9.2: The Crusades

The Crusades

  • The Crusades were a series of religious wars fought between Christians and Muslims to gain control over the Holy Land.
  • The Holy Land is where present day Israel is located.
  • There were many different Crusades with Christians trying to retake control of the Holy Land (Jerusalem).
  • The word "Crusade" is related to the word "Cross" and means Christian Holy War.

Below is a list of the Crusades, the years they took place, and information about each Crusade.

Positive Results of the Crusades:

  • It increased trade with the Middle East.
  • Crusaders came home with new ideas.
  • It led to expansion and exploration.

Negative Results of the Crusades:

  • Many lives were lost.
  • It caused more tension between the Christian and Muslim faiths.
