Lesson 9.2: The Crusades
The Crusades
- The Crusades were a series of religious wars fought between Christians and Muslims to gain control over the Holy Land.
- The Holy Land is where present day Israel is located.
- There were many different Crusades with Christians trying to retake control of the Holy Land (Jerusalem).
- The word "Crusade" is related to the word "Cross" and means Christian Holy War.
Below is a list of the Crusades, the years they took place, and information about each Crusade.
Positive Results of the Crusades:
- It increased trade with the Middle East.
- Crusaders came home with new ideas.
- It led to expansion and exploration.
Negative Results of the Crusades:
- Many lives were lost.
- It caused more tension between the Christian and Muslim faiths.
