Lesson 2.1: Who was Johannes Gutenberg?

Johannes Gutenberg - Inventor of the Printing Press

 This week, we will be studying one famous person from the Renaissance in each Lesson. We begin with an inventor from Germany - Johannes Gutenberg. (You might sometimes see his name is spelled "Johann Gutenberg"). He is credited with creating the first printing press - one of the greatest and most influential inventions of all time. 

1. Open your Renaissance Digital Notebook (that you downloaded last week) in a separate tab and scroll to slide 6.  Throughout the lesson, try to add at least 5 facts in the Gutenberg box.

Directions: Using the provided video and reading, add at least 5 facts (bullet points) about Gutenberg. The other boxes will be completed later in the week.

Some facts that you could consider including are: 

  • When was he born? When did he die? 
  • What country is he from?
  • What is best known for? Why is he famous?
  • How did his achievements affect the world during the Renaissance?
  • How do his achievements still affect the world today?
