5th Grade Keyboarding Assessment
5th Grade Keyboarding Assessment
The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) requires that the elementary keyboarding assessment be administered in the spring of 5th grade.
Changes are happening for 2021-22. Please refer to the curriculum map for your grade for updates. Updates will be coming shortly on this page and the rest of the Keyboarding course.
The assessment is administered in the spring of 5th grade. It takes approximately 60-90 minutes per class to administer. Each school's Educational Technology Coach will conduct an annual keyboarding assessment training for 5th grade teachers.
Administering the Keyboarding Assessment
The keyboarding assessment will measure speed, accuracy, and technique. Use the Keyboarding for Kids (KBK) online program to determine speed and accuracy. Any of the one-minute timed writings in lessons 61-64, exercise 4 of the KBK program may be used. Students should be tested on a passage they have not previously practiced. Watch the following video to learn more about the assessment process:
Note: To access the assessments, you will need to ensure that "Disable Lesson Skipping" is unchecked in the 5th grade grading profile, as shown the following screenshot (if you're still having trouble, reach out to your Ed Tech/TPACK coach):
While students are testing, evaluate and record each student's keyboarding technique using the Keyboarding Technique Checklist:
