Parent Introduction
Dear Parents,
In this unit we introduce students to being able to say the complete date of an event. In Chinese the date begins with the year, month, and then day. The written form of the exact day is different from the spoken form, so we are first teaching the spoken form, which is pronounced like the word, "how".
Also, to help understand the concept, along with birthdays, we have used Christmas as an example of a holiday that is tied to a specific date. We recognize that all students may not celebrate Christmas, but we hope it's use here is acceptable as you will also discover that even though it is not a Chinese holiday, there are plenty of Christmas celebrations in China. China is also responsible for producing 80% of the world's Christmas merchandise.
Finally, we hope you enjoy the cultural pieces, and the chance to learn "Jingle Bells" in Chinese, as it is very well-known among students in China!
