Introduction to Collaborations in Canvas

Canvas uses Google Docs to allow multiple users to work together on the same document at the same time. Collaborative documents are saved in real-time, meaning a change made by any of its users will be immediately visible to everyone. The following video will give you an overview of Collaborations in Canvas.

Using Google Docs in Canvas Collaborations

Collaborations that use Google Docs (CSDDocs) require that all participating learners have created and linked their CSDDocs account in their personal Settings. More information about linking CSDDocs to Canvas Accounts can be found in Module 09 of this Fast Track Course.

To enable Collaborations in Canvas, you can add the Collaborations tab to the navigation menu. This addition to the course navigation also gives students the ability to create their own Collaborations. We recommend that you create student groups and then initiate Collaborations from the Group Workspace. Learn more about how to set up groups on the previous page: How To Create Groups In Canvas.
