Department Philosophy
Knowledge and understanding of the State Driving Handbook is essential in becoming a responsible driver. Therefore, students will be challenged to gain understanding of their responsibility to be a safe driver through study of the state handbook. It is also important to have knowledge dealing with the operation of an automobile and therefore, students will be exposed to this by driving on the range and road.

Requirements:
27 hours of classroom instruction
23 days=27 hours (6 absences= no credit)
6 hours of driving through Driver Ed.
34 hours with parents
10 hours at night
Pass Driver Education class
Have permit for six months before you can get license.

Range Obligation:
2 times on the range=3 hours each time
Meet in back parking lot
Show up no matter what the weather conditions are.
You must show up when you are scheduled.
You do not have to have the range done before the class ends.
Road Obligation:
6 hours, your schedule will be arranged by your instructor.
You will be called for the road once your ranges are complete.
Both drivers must show up in order to driver with the instructor.
You do not have to have the road done before the class ends.
Instruction Permit:
You must pass the written test before you can receive a permit.
You will get your permit from the DMV.
You can not drive on the road without a permit.
You must have your permit for six months before you can get your license.
Your parents or guardian must be seated next to you while you are driving with your permit.
Grading Policy:
All assignment, test, notes, videos reviews, and quizzes will be given a point value. Points will be totaled and the number of points possible will determine the grade breakdown. From the possible point total, grades will be given from the percentage breakdown indicated below.

State Law
The state law for Driver Education is that every student must be in class for 27 instruction hours. This is mandatory and there are no exceptions. Any student who has missing assignment will not receive state DLD credit.
Note:
YOUTHFUL DRIVER RESTRICTIONS NOTICE: This law prohibits new drivers carrying teen passengers or driving alone for the first six months of their license, up to age 18. The new driver may drive with family members and/or friends if there is a licensed adult driver (21 years or older) in the front seat. The new driver may not drive unless under one of the exceptions rules. Certain exceptions such as: going to and from school activities, to and from church activities, to and from work, emergency situation, and agricultural work are allowed. However, the teen driver must have a permission note from their parent or guardian.
