Module 3.3 - Focus on Dropbox
Focus on Dropbox
Dropbox offers much more than just file storage and synchronization. Watch the following movie for a quick overview of some of the other things that Dropbox can do for you to make your digital life easier.
Practical Uses for Dropbox
Dropbox can be used for any of the following tasks:
- File backup
- Version control
- Sending and receiving large files
- Collaboration
- Sharing photos and video
File Backup
Dropbox is a painless way to back up your files. This is because every file in your Dropbox folder exists not only on your local hard drive, but also on Dropbox servers, safe and sound.
Version Control
Dropbox can help with version control. Every time that you save a file, Dropbox automatically saves the previous version. You can go back in time later and retrieve any of these old versions. So, there's no need to keep renaming your files version 1, version 2, version 3, et cetera.
Sending and Receiving Large Files
Dropbox is a great way to share files with others. You're just a couple of clicks away from sharing any file or folder in your Dropbox drive with anyone. The recipient doesn't even need a Dropbox account. This is an awesome alternative to trying to email large file attachments.
Collaboration
Dropbox is also a collaboration tool. You can share any folder inside your Dropbox drive with one or more additional Dropbox users. Then everyone in your group can access and modify the files in the folder. It's like having a file server that can be used by many people scattered in many different physical locations.
Photo Sharing
Dropbox has an easy-to-use photo sharing feature that allows you to share photos and videos with friends and relatives in an attractive gallery view by just dropping photos and videos into a designated folder.
