Weekly Outline: Figurative Language & Theme
Figurative Language & Theme
You have now learned about how an author sets up a story with a plot diagram, and how we as readers make inferences to determine what is happening in that story.
Now we are going to talk about figurative language and theme. Figurative language is a tool authors use to make their writing more exciting. Authors of all types use this tool including music artists and movie creators. Theme is the message of a story. It's a lesson the author wants you to learn from reading their story.
Don't forget to open your INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK! You will want to take notes!! (remember: it is in your Google Drive)
Learning Intentions
This week I will learn how to identify 8 types of figurative language (simile, metaphor, idiom, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, personification, oxymoron, alliteration), so I can understand how an author adds excitement to their writing.
I will learn how to identify the theme of a movie trailer, song, or passage by writing out theme sentences.
