Q2 Week 1 Overview - Halloween

Introduction to the Module Instruction


During Quarter 1 you learned a lot of the foundational elements of ELA such as informative and argumentative writing, figurative language, Plot diagram, inferencing, and theme. This week you are going to review all of those elements with activities all about Halloween!

This week I will practice reading a passage and answering comprehension questions so that I can better understand what I am reading. 

I will create my own spooky story using elements or scary stories that I have learned.

I will review figurative language so I can identify it when reading and practice adding more excitement in my own writing. 

 

Standards:

RL.6.7  Compare and contrast the experience of reading a story, drama, or poem to listening to or viewing an audio, video, or live version of the text, including contrasting what you "see" and "hear" when reading the text to what they perceive when they listen or watch.            

L.6.5a Interpret figures of speech in context

W.6.6 Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others; 

L.6.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing

I know I am successful when 

    • I have scored an 80% or higher on the  creation of candy corn response questions
    • I have outlined a scary story using all appropriate elements with 80% accuracy
    • I have reviewed and completed the figurative language practice with 80% or higher accuracy 
    • I have read and listened to Tell-tale Heart and answered the reading response questions with 80% or higher accuracy
