Module 6.1 Course Home Page
Course Homepage
Your Canvas course homepage is the main welcome page for your course. It is what students see when they first enter your course. Canyons District teachers are asked to follow a homepage style guide so that important information is easily and consistently accessible for students.
Setting Your Course Homepage
Pages in Canvas are where course content and and instruction are added. You can include text, multimedia, embedded and interactive tools, and links to files. You can even make links to other pages. Your course homepage is just one of many pages you will create in your course, and you need to designate it as the homepage. Doing so will allow it to be the first thing students see when then enter your course. Watch the following video to learn how.
Create your homepage
1. Click on the "Pages" tab in the left sidebar navigation menu (NOTE: this button is grayed out but can still be clicked).
2. Click on the "View All Pages" button in the top right corner.
3. Click the "+ Pages" button to create a new page.
4. Give your page a title ("Home" works well).
5. At the bottom of the page and click the "Save & publish" button. (NOTE: We will add content to later in this module).
6. Return to "Pages."
7. Click on the gear icon next to the cloud icon for your home page. Select "Use as Front Page" from the list.

Adding Content to Your Course Homepage
As was mentioned, Canyons District teachers are asked to follow a homepage style guide so that important information is easily and consistently accessible for students. Use this video and the links below to complete your homepage.
Your course homepage helps students know they are in the right place and helps them navigate. Following the district's homepage style guide is important for creating a consistent Canvas environment for students. You home page should include the following elements:
- Course name
- Instructor name, photo, & contact information
- Short welcome message
- Link to the course disclosure statement
- Course Schedule
- Multimedia (photo, video, or other element)
Below are example home pages that follow this style guide.
